Adopt

Most of our rescues will be available for adoption when they are ready. Everything we know about the individual horse will be disclosed. Most of these horses have come from bad situations and it is up to us to make sure they never do again. Available horses will be adoptable for a fee. That fee helps cover some of the expenses we have in them. Adoption fees vary from horse to horse. Contact us directly if you are interested in adopting one of our rescues.

Foster Homes: Occassionally we will have a horse looking for a foster home. NHER maintains ownership and the foster family takes over care of the horse. If you are interested in being a foster parent please contact us directly.

Laurel was rescued in March '24 after years as an Amish buggy horse. He arrived scared and worn down, needing time to heal physically and emotionally. With proper care, he’s gained trust and confidence.

Recently started under saddle, Laurel is green but willing, intelligent, and not spooky. He’s sound, barefoot with good feet, and UTD on all care. Due to limited riders, we’re seeking an adopter to continue his journey. Adoption contract with references required.

Maple is a sweet, smart mare looking for her person. Lightly ridden since arrival, she’s easy to tack up and great on trails, preferring to trot under saddle with a forward but responsive stride.

She needs a confident handler, as she can be pushy with new people but is never mean. Maple loves attention, stands for grooming, and will bond deeply with the right owner. Sound, barefoot, no vices, and UTD on care. Adoption contract and references required.

Bradley spent his life working on an Amish farm and is now learning that people are kind and life can be fun! He is available as a companion animal or pet, as he is not riding sound due to Shivers, which is managed with vitamin E. He does best with 24/7 turnout but enjoys a stall. Bradley had extensive dental work and eats soaked meals but requires only routine dental care now. He is gentle, gets along with all pasture mates, and is still learning to fully trust new people. Adoption contract and references required.

Benson came to us from an auction where we knew we couldn’t leave him behind. Now, he’s safe forever—whether with NHER or an approved adopter.

As he settles in, we’re learning more about his personality and needs, but one thing is certain: he’s ready for a fresh start. If you’re looking for a loving and deserving horse, Benson could be the perfect match!

Sequoia came to us essentially feral but has blossomed into a sweet, willing horse with great manners. She leads, lunges, and has been started under saddle, showing lovely movement and potential in any direction. Sound with no limitations, she’d make a great companion or a fun project for an experienced rider. UTD on all care.

Adopters must meet her in person—no sight-unseen adoptions. Adoption fee applies and will increase with training.

Sierra is a lovely Saddlebred mare who previously worked as an Amish buggy horse and broodmare. She has recently been started under saddle and is learning quickly.

Sound with no physical limitations, she is ready for an experienced rider or trainer to continue her education. Sierra has a willing attitude and plenty of potential, whether as a riding partner or for another suitable job. UTD on all care. Adoption contract and references required.
